Sustainable Tourism and Eco-tourism in a Biosphere Reserve Context

Part I: Presentations

Laurie Adams is co-operator of Bruce Peninsula Outfitters, an adventure eco-tourism company and co-owner of E'terra, the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve's first "Eco Inn" opening in summer 2002. Laurie discusses her perception of an Eco Inn and what that entails from the perspective of a business operator.

Al MacPherson is Professor/Coordinator of Eco-Tourism Programs at Sir Sandford Fleming College. Al discusses what is eco-tourism as well as the need for training, knowledge and skills.

Question and Answer Period. Workshop participants ask the two presenters a series of questions based on their presentations.

Part II: Break Out Sessions

Case Study 1: Baiting Black Bears as Sustainable Tourism
Participants study bear baiting for wildlife viewing purposes.

Case Study 2: Establishing a Sustainable Tourism Accreditation Program for Canada
Participants provide input to help develop a grading system for Canada's Sustainable Tourism Accreditation Program.
