Scenic Caves Nature Preserve

The Scenic Caves Nature Preserve is open from early-May to mid-October. Situated on the Niagara Escarpment, visitors can view the town of Collingwood, the spectacular shoreline of Georgian Bay and several thousand square miles of unsurpassed scenery.

Set against the backdrop of sheer limestone cliffs, the Caves plunge hundreds of feet into the depths, opening passageways and revealing rock formations from another era. Throughout the Caves, rare and exotic plants, including the Maidenhead Fern, grow and flourish. Every new corner promises a unique surprise.

South Grey Museum

Canada's Centennial year, 1967, stirred in Canadians a fierce pride in their country and a determination to celebrate its history. In South Grey, citizens grew concerned that many of the area's irreplaceable artifacts were disappearing.

In order to preserve some of the local history, the Chamber of Commerce decided to create a museum and bought the Flesherton railway station for that purpose. The building, unfortunately, proved to be unsafe for artifact storage and uneconomical to move from the railway tracks at Ceylon to the Memorial Park in Flesherton. Consequently, it was sold, and the proceeds were turned over to a Museum Committee. One of the most ardent supporters and benefactors of the project was the late Kate Macmillan whose many family treasures grace the museum.

Through a Local Initiatives Programme, the present building was erected in 1973 in the Memorial Park. The Lieutenant-Governor, Pauline McGibbon, officially opened the museum in September, 1974.

The South Grey Museum & Historical Library is open Tuesday to Saturday, from Canada Day to Labour Day.
