Meaford
Museum
The Meaford
Museum opened in 1961 and is located right beside Richardson
Boats Ltd. at the Meaford Harbour. The building was the town's water
pumping station in earlier years and was converted to a museum largely
through the efforts of the Kent Womens' Institute.
More recently, the museum has been the centre of attention
for many Meaford residents. Bruce Sheppard, a local resident and
retired ship Captain has spent much of the last few years seeing
to the details of transforming the Museum into the popular attraction
that it is today. Inside, the museum has been upgraded without losing
it's charm and the displays and artifacts reflect the history of
Meaford, which was founded in 1874.
A new addition houses Meaford & District Fire
Department's 1938 Maple Leaf fire truck. The outside of the building
also reflects the enthusiasm of local volunteers; it sports a new
coat of paint and the windows have been decorated with paintings
created by local artist Gunter Neumann.
