The
Niagara Escarpment rises dramatically
on the horizon above the cities, towns, farms and forests of the
Region of Halton.
Halton's twelve distinctive Escarpment
parks are part of a system of more than 131 parks strung like jewels
along the rocky ridge of the Escarpment as it stretches through
the heart of southern Ontario.
Explore the area and you'll discover the unexpected
-- a unique lake, pristine and calm, whose depths hold secrets from
ages past; a 500 year old Indian village; the silent ruins of a
century-old mill; glacial pot-holes and waterfalls; deep-cut valleys
and rocky windswept heights Along the way we'll find ski hills and
museums, miles of trails to wander and unsurpassed scenic beauty.
And the appeal of the Halton Escarpment area extends
beyond the parks themselves. No matter what the time of year, there
are always interesting things to see and do. Go to a maple-syrup
festival or an old-time country fair; pick your own apples or berries
or sample fresh cider; play a round of golf; visit an equestrian
centre or cheer on your favourite at the race track; stop for tea
at a country inn; browse through antique or craft shops.
