Natural Heritage Forum

ONE MP staff were invited to present at the Ministry of Natural Resouces' "Natural Heritage Forum", an annual event that brings together biologists, ecologists and conservation staff from the MNR to discuss and learn about natural heritage activities.

 

Ontario Envirothon

ONE MP staff volunteered as "Station Masters" for the 2004 Ontario Envirothon, a provincial competition bringing together finalists from high schools across the province. Student teams were tested in the areas of aquatics, soils, wildlife, foresty and a special topic (natural resource management in the urban environment).

 

Leading Edge Conference

ONE MP staff presented monitoring results through paper and poster submissions at the Leading Edge Conference, held in St. Catharines in March of 2004.

 

2003

University of Waterloo Monitoring Course

The University of Waterloo Monitoring Course was held the last week of August at the Cabot Head Provincial Nature Reserve in Bruce County. This was the second inventory for this plot, which was established in 1998.

2002

Switch grass plug plantingPrairie Species Planting Day

Over 30 volunteers hand planted prairie species plugs to restore rare oak savanna habitat. Planting conditions were ideal, with sunny skies and soft soils from the previous day's rain. Volunteers were presented with certificates of appreciation and seed packets of native prairie seeds for their efforts. University of Waterloo Monitoring Course

The seventh annual University of Waterloo Monitoring Course was held at the Hockley Valley Provincial Nature Reserve near Orangeville, Ontario, where a one hectare forest biodiversity monitoring plot was first established in 1997. Approximately 15 students participated in the course.

Rehabilitating Kolapore Creek

Volunteers from the University of Waterloo assisted with rehabilitating a section of Kolapore Creek in Grey County. Biodegradable coconut logs were placed along the banks to trap silt and narrow the creek channel.

 

Volunteer Tree Planting Day

Over 40 volunteer participated in a tree planting event held in the Dundas Valley in the spring of 2001. The goal was to increase forest interior habitat by connecting fragmented forest patches. 2001

Leading Edge Conference

ONE Monitoring Program staff presented papers and posters at the Leading Edge Conference held in Burlington. Topics presented by ONE include: Stream Rehabilitation in Grey County, Forest Biodiversity Monitoring, Canada's Biosphere Reserves and Dundas Valley Forest Interior and Oak Savanna Restoration Project.


SER Conference

Poster presentations were displayed by ONE at the Society for Ecological Restoration International Conference - Restoration Across Borders held in Niagara Falls.
